The Still Room
There is no candle for this room, yet.
A still room is where a house made its own cordials, preserves and small medicines. It housed the quiet industry behind the rooms with the good furniture. This one has a door onto the service passage and a window that has been painted shut for so long the paint has gone the colour of the frame.
Whatever was distilled in here stopped being made a long while before anyone thought to write the recipes down. The shelves are still up. The jars are still on them, and most are still full, and nobody currently living knows of what.
It is on the plan because it is part of the house. It is not for sale, and it may never be.
