Incense caught in the stone walls, grey light filtering through the stained glass, someone long ago has draped a black cloth over the altar. A heavy silence fills the room.

Stone holds smoke the way cloth holds it, only for very much longer. There has been no service here in living memory yet the incense has never left. Somebody draped the altar before they went, and drew the door to behind them, and the room has kept both gestures ever since. It is the coldest room in the house, and not entirely because of the stone.
